Additional Support

Additional Learning Needs

Learners identified as having additional learning needs (ALN) or Additional Social Needs (ASN) will receive regular one-to-one coaching and support from a member of the Additional Support Team.

This support will be provided flexibly and generally takes place in the workplace. Learners can ask for support at any time during their apprenticeship. Support is highly tailored for individual learners and can be accessed at any point during the apprenticeship.

Safeguarding

The government has defined the term “safeguarding children” as:

“The process of protecting children from abuse or neglect, preventing impairment of their health and development, and ensuring they are growing up in circumstances consistent with the provision of safe and effective care that enables children to have the optimum life chances and enter adulthood successfully”.

Abuse

Abuse is behaviour towards a person that either deliberately or unknowingly causes a person harm, or endangers their human or civil rights.

It can be passive, e.g. failing to take action to care for someone, or failing to raise the alert about abuse; or active, e.g. hitting, stealing or doing something that causes harm.

Abuse can be a one off or something that is repeated.

Bullying is the use of aggression with the intention of hurting another person. Bullying results in pain and distress to the victim.

Bullying can be
 

  • Emotional; being unfriendly, excluding, tormenting (e.g. hiding books, threatening gestures)
  • Physical; pushing, kicking, hitting, punching or any use of violence
  • Racist; racial taunts, graffiti, gestures
  • Sexual; unwanted physical contact or sexually abusive comments
  • Homophobic; because of or focusing on the issue of sexuality
  • Verbal; name-calling, sarcasm, spreading rumours, teasing

Cyber; all areas of internet, such as email and internet chat room misuse, mobile threats by text messaging and calls, misuse of associated technology, e.g. camera and video facilities
