If you have been considering employing an apprentice you may be eligible for a Government grant to help you do this. From 1st January 2015 employers have the chance to claim up to £1,500 for employing their first apprentice aged 16-24 years old.

The grant is subject to eligibility and availability, grant applications are considered on a first come first serve basis.

Kent Employment Programme Grant

The Kent Employment Programme Grant of £2,000 is available for employers that are looking to recruit a young person aged 18 – 24, currently claiming job seekers allowance.

This initiative has been made available to support the local area and improve unemployment rates within the County. Combined with national grants employers could receive up to £3,500, depending on the young persons’ length of benefit claim.

The Derby City Apprenticeship Grant for employer

The grant is available to employers who are new to Apprenticeships or have not been in the position to employ an apprentice within the last 12 months.

The total value of the grant is £1000. The full £1000 will be available to employers recruiting an apprentice aged 16 to 18 – £500 when the apprentice has completed 26 weeks and then the final £500 when the apprenticeship has been completed. The grant is administered by Derby City Council.

Gedling Borough Council Apprenticeship Grant.

The grant up to £1000 is aimed to employers who may not have employed an apprentice to help promote business growth and encourage businesses in the Borough to take on young gelding residents. – this whole sentence needs re-phrasing.

To apply, your business will need to meet the following criteria;

An employer need not be based in Gedling to access the grant, eligibility as noted in point 3 is established using the Apprentices home post-code. – what does this mean???

The grant is payable in a single payment and is available 13-weeks after the apprentice commenced employment and upon proof that the Apprentice is still in both employment and learning. – this sentences needs re-phrasing…. Commenced employment and upon proof doesn’t read very well.

The Nottingham Priority Ward Employer Apprenticeship Grant.

The grant of £500 is available to employers who recruit an apprentice living in one of the five priority wards in Nottingham. The five wards are:

–          Employers based in one of the five priority wards that recruits a Nottingham City resident as their apprentice.

Or

–          Employers that recruit an apprentice currently living in one the five priority wards.

London ESF Apprenticeship Grant for Employers

This is a grant of £3000 for London employers who recruit an apprentice under the terms of the mainstream AGE 16-24 offer. It is available from 1st January 2015 to 30th June 2015, the apprentice must have been employed and started their learning period in this period.

Greater Manchester Apprenticeship Grant for Employers
The Greater Manchester (GM) AGE is a grant of £1,500 for GM employers who recruit an apprentice where you haven’t employed an Apprentice in the previous 12 months.   It replaces the national AGE offer within Greater Manchester. This grant supports Greater Manchester businesses to recruit individuals aged 16 to 24 into employment through the apprenticeship programme that would otherwise not be in a position to do so.
