Ly Velviste is 28 years old and has been a Starbucks partner (employee) for over three years, beginning her Starbucks career at the West Hampstead store. Ly is currently completing a Level 3 Advanced Apprenticeship in Leadership and Management and is on course to start Retail Management Training (RMT) for a Store Manager role in Islington.
Ly says: “I was hired as a Starbucks barista at the store in West Hampstead and immediately loved the fast pace environment, and working in such a fun team. Whilst I was in this role, I was also chosen to complete Starbucks Coffee Master training, which I really enjoyed; Starbucks is a coffee company at heart and there is so much to learn about sourcing, roasting, brewing and tasting.
“I was looking for my next challenge when I heard about the Starbucks apprenticeship programme. What appealed to me most was the chance to gain transferable qualifications and learning on the job. My experience working in busy stores has definitely helped with my apprenticeship, and the new skills I have learned has made my job more rewarding. The great thing about this apprenticeship scheme is the diversity of skills you learn, I am also learning lots about myself, my strengths and weaknesses to take forward in a Store Manager role, hopefully with lots of apprentices in my team!”
