WHSmith announces Apprenticeship scheme in Partnership with Remit TrainingDecember 1, 2016
Remit Training is delighted to announce that WHSmith, one of the UK’s leading retail groups, has appointed Remit Training to support the delivery of it apprenticeship programme within its network of 1,200 high street and travel stores.
Employing around 13,000 employees across its UK businesses, and celebrating its 225th anniversary in 2017, WHSmith continues to put the development of its employees at the heart of its longevity. In 2017, WHSmith will be further investing in its apprenticeship programme – both to attract new talent within its network of 1200 stores, and to provide continued support for its internal Retail Academy and management development programmes. Embedding apprenticeships within its career path will offer continuous career development opportunities for employees across the group.
Commenting on this new partnership, WHSmith Group HR Director Anthony Lawrence said: “We have always recognised the importance of learning and development, and in supporting employees to maximise their potential. Moving forward, apprenticeships will play a crucial role within our people strategy in providing essential vocational training across the business. With the impact of the apprenticeship levy coming in April, this partnership is an important step in the development of our business and our people to help meet our service commitments to our customers”
Sue Pittock, chief executive at Remit Training said: “We are delighted to be working in partnership with WHSmith to support their ongoing strategies and steer them through the apprenticeship levy reforms planned for next April. I am equally delighted that WHSmith will continue using their existing online learning platform and courses from Upskill People. These coursesare mapped to the new apprenticeship standards, and we are working together to create a high-quality, bespoke apprenticeship programme with a new delivery model that will support a clear career pathway within WHSmith.”
